15 cases of measles have been confirmed in Grant County.

MEASLES  Measles vaccination

Measles is a highly contagious vaccine-preventable disease and most deadly of all childhood rash/fever illnesses. It is spread by droplets or direct contact with nasal or throat secretions of infected persons.

The MMR vaccine is the safest protection you can give your child against measles. Children should be given the first dose of MMR vaccine soon after the first birthday. The 2nd dose is recommended before kindergarten.

Measles Advisory

The disease can result in severe complications, including pneumonia and encephalitis. Current outbreaks in the U.S. highlight the risk of measles importations from other countries through travel. These outbreaks highlight the importance of vaccination to prevent imported measles cases and thier spread to susceptible U.S. populations.

A recent CDC Health Advisory provides information regarding measles outbreaks in the U.S. and discusses the prevention and control of this disease: See

Measles outbreaks in the U.S.- Public health preparedness, control and response in healthcare settings and the community.(highlighted above)
