Continue to Vaccinate Babies, High-risk Children & Adults, and the Elderly against the Flu
Flu vaccinations are underway in Chelan and Douglas Counties. Chelan Douglas Health District urges everyone, especially people at high risk, to get vaccinated. The best time to get vaccinated is Mid-October through November; however, it is not too late to get vaccinated even in December.
Walk-in clinics are being offered Mon, Tues, & Fri from 8-4:30 and on Wed or Thur by appointment at the health district office, 200 Valley Mall Parkway, in East Wenatchee. The cost is $25.
New this year… for children, the Health Department will be offering FluMist. This is a needle-free flu vaccine. This vaccine is given as a nasal mist in each nostril and will only be offered to children 2 through 18 years of age. A limited amount of FluMist will be available beginning November 8th. FluMist may not be right for everyone. Health Department staff will determine if your child can receive this vaccine
Like some other recommended vaccines, FluMist is a live, weakened virus vaccine and is designed not to cause the flu. The live viruses in FluMist rarely spread from person to person, but if they do, they are not likely to cause illness. FluMist does not contain thimerosal or any other preservatives.
There are also regular flu shots available for all ages beginning at 6 months of age. Protect yourself and your family from this serious disease! Vaccines are in plentiful supply - with the holidays fast approaching - take time out now to get everyone protected.
